What is the Process of a Dental Implant?

Hi, Dr Fong here from Sunbury Dentist, which is part of the Dental House Group.

If you have missing teeth and are thinking about getting dental implants, you might be wondering, “What’s actually involved in the process?” Well, let me walk you through it step by step.

  1. First, we start with a thorough assessment.

During your consultation, we will take a 3D X-Ray, right here in our clinic. We’ll also take a good look at your teeth, gums, and bone health to see if you are a candidate for dental implants. We will go through the treatment plan and investment with you to make sure you are comfortable with it.

  2. The next step is placing the implant.

This is where we place a small titanium or zirconia post into your jawbone. Think of it as the new root for your tooth. Depending on the location of the missing tooth, we might also give you a temporary crown.
And don’t worry, we’ll make sure you’re comfortable throughout the whole procedure. And if you’d like, we can offer general anaesthesia so you can be asleep for the entire procedure and wake up with your brand-new implant already in place!

  3. Then we let it heal.

After the implant’s placed, we need to give it some time to bond with your bone. This process is called osseointegration and usually takes a few months. It’s important for creating a strong, long-lasting foundation for your new tooth.

  4. Finally, we place the crown.

Once everything has healed properly, we’ll design and attach a custom-made crown that looks and functions just like a natural tooth. The result is a smile that not only looks great but feels strong and comfortable too.

Throughout the process, we’ll guide you step by step, making sure you feel confident, comfortable, and informed.

Here at Sunbury Dentist, we also help our patients with different payment plan options.

So, if you’ve been considering dental implants and want to know if they’re right for you, simply call us or complete the form on the website, and we’ll help you organise your consultation. We can’t wait to see your new smile!
